INTRODUCTION<br /> <br /> </span><span class="whitesmlTEXT">The Development Brief was adopted on the 14th December 2005 as a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD). This follows a period of extensive public consultation detailed at the end of this site. The SPD sets out what the Council would like to see for the area and is a technical planning document that can be afforded significant weight when considering planning applications.<br /> </span><br /> <span class="whitesmlheader">Why Bridge Street? Why now?<br /> <br /> </span><span class="whitesmlTEXT">The <a class="link2" href="http://www.wyreforestdc.gov.uk/wfdc_html/planning/local_plan/index.htm">Adopted Wyre Forest District Local Plan</a> earmarks part of Bridge Street in Stourport-on- Severn for redevelopment.<br /> <br /> </span><span class="whitesmlTEXT">The importance of this site has been recognised by the Regional Development Agency, Advantage West Midlands (AWM), and the associated project team  Stourport Forward for the Market Towns Initiative (MTI). <br /> <br /> </span><span class="whitesmlTEXT">In March 2005, the District Council, as Local Planning Authority, published a <a class="link2" href="http://www.wyreforestdc.gov.uk/wfdc_docs/planning/lds_2005.pdf">Local Development Scheme (LDS)</a> setting out the timetable for planning policy formulation over the next three years. One of the first documents to be prepared is a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) for the Bridge Street Basins Link (Local Plan Policy <a class="link2" href="http://www.wyreforestdc.gov.uk/wfdc_html/planning/local_plan/html/CHAPTER14_town.HTM#STC.4">STC.4</a>).</span></td> <td>   </td> <td align="left" valign="top" width="30%"> <div class="whitesmlBULLETS"> <span class="whitesmlTEXT">The timely preparation of the SPD reflects the momentum now behind the regeneration of Stourport-on-Severn and in particular:</span> <ul> <li class="whitesmlBULLETS">Heritage Lottery Funding towards the restoration and enhancement of the canal basins.</li> <li>Proposals to re-open Lichfield Basin to create new housing (Local Plan Policy <a class="link2" href="http://www.wyreforestdc.gov.uk/wfdc_html/planning/local_plan/html/CHAPTER14_town.HTM#STC.1">STC.1</a>)</li> <li>6 hectare mixed use redevelopment of the former Carpets of Worth site (Policy <a class="link2" href="http://www.wyreforestdc.gov.uk/wfdc_html/planning/local_plan/html/CHAPTER14_town.HTM#STC.2">STC.2</a>) with detailed proposals anticipated during 2005/06.</li> <li> Stourport Forward - an AWM initiative established during 2004 to provide valuable support for the town as part of the MTI project</li> </ul> </div> <p><span class="whitesmlTEXT"><br /> </span><span class="whitesmlheader">WHAT IS A DEVELOPMENT BRIEF?<br /> </span><span class="whitesmlTEXT"><br /> The two main purposes of a brief are firstly to improve the effectiveness and certainty of the planning and development process and secondly to improve the quality of development.<br /> <br /> </span><span class="whitesmlTEXT">The brief will let developers know what is expected and how the guidance will be used when deciding planning applications.
